He said with the peace ushered in the area, it is only prudent that people of West Nile vote the current government to protect this “gain”.

“ From the testimonies you have heard from the NRM leaders,  this is a region that primarily in the past was leading in producing Ugandans who would run to exile but under the NRM all of them are now back home and Uganda is now making history  as the number one hosting refugee country in Africa as opposed to producing refugees.”

Obua said Museveni has been able to dialogue and persuade several rebel groups like the West Nile Bank Front and Uganda National Rescue Front 1 and 2 that were operating in West Nile to oppose his government.

Arua Central Division Member of Parliament, Jackson Atima Lee , who also doubles as the NRM regional whip for West Nile region said the war in Northern Uganda has rattled West Nile but said ever since peace was ushered into the region, people are satisfied with the developments over the years.

“This region was known to be one  which looked like a wilderness because the people from here were always in refugee areas in DR. Congo and South Sudan. But when NRM government took over power, the people were called back to come and settle, to begin to do  development in their own country and to begin to live lives in their own country,”Atima said.

“All those who were refugees in foreign countries came back. That is why we are able to see the population that has  been coming out to receive the president during his rallies to give him assurance for the support for 2026-2031.”

Peace spurring development

Atima said the peace attained in West Nile has spurred development in the sub region, mentioning several infrastructure.

The NRM vice chairperson for Northern Uganda, Hamson Obua said West Nile is now a cosmopolitan area with people from all walks of life doing business.

He said voting for the current government means maintaining the status quo, noting  that the people of West Nile cant afford “making a mistake to vote another person.”

“The people of West Nile know that out of the eight presidential candidates, the one who will guarantee the current peace is none other than President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the presidential candidate of NRM.”

According to the NRM Secretary General, Richard Todwong, with programs like the Parish Development Model that government has introduce to improve the livelihoods of the people, West Nile voters cant afford making a mistake not voting President Museveni.

“We are speaking of tangible gains. Everything had been shut down but the region has once against stood up.  These are gains we don’t want any amateur to mess up,”Todwong said.
